Abstract: High level drilling was one of the effective methods using for gas in goaf. With characteristics of controlling and the long effective part, the high level directional drilling used to gas drainage was a tendency. But the study on the application effect of the high level directional drilling was less. Base on the successfully developed of the high-power rig, four drillings were done at Tingnan Coal Mine. And then they were enlarged to 153mm. Through the analysis of the flow and concentration of the gas from the holes, it found that the flow of the hole had a relationship with the distance between the hole and the stopping line. Even the extraction rate compared with the same high mining drainage was still a gap, but the gas emission per unit area had a big advantage.It was a new way of thinking for the gas control in upper corner.
